Smudge's marks were made by getting my fingers messy with charcoal and then smashing them down onto paper.

To me it feels like a polka dot but more chaotic. It was printed to scale and with digital printing being able to reproduce all the details of each mark - the pattern faithfully translates that mark-making process in the studio.
